I just wanted to highlight a blog of a very talented guy that I work with–Ben Simonsen. He just started it up and it’ll be well worth the bookmark.
There are a lot of things to be jealous of Ben for, but I’m most blown away by his ability for observation.
While you wait for him to start filling his blog you can check out his website at bensimonsen.com

So I’m trying to beef up my portfolio, especially in the storyboards area, cause that’s what I want to do more of. In order to do this I’ve decided to start on a comic book project that’s been bouncing around in my sketchbooks for several years now. It’s the story of young Russian Orthodox monk that wanders around a mythical Medeivel Russia fighting with a giant blade of grass.
I’m trying to decide on a style. I know I want the atmosphere to play a big role, so much so that I’m not sure I want to draw the human figures very realistically. I’m persuaded that something like Chester Brown’s Louis Riel biography would be a nice direction to take.
So here’s what I’ve been playing with lately. See if you can guess which ones I like the best.

My brother Cameron just decided to start a blog. I can’t think of another blog that would get me more pumped.
Cameron is the creative mastermind that made me start drawing in the first place, and he’s still tearring it up.
So for you consideration:

I’m trying to come up with a design for character. He’s an intergalactic warlord who is sentenced to imprisonment in the body of an earth child. So he needs to look ruthless but have a vulnerable side there.
I’m not sure if I even have the ruthless part down, but I thought some of these designs were fun anyway.
